Dave Atkin, MD

Dr. Dave Atkin works as an orthopedic surgeon and has surgical privileges at CPMC Mission Bernal in San Francisco and the Campus Surgery Center in Daly City.


He graduated from the University of California, San Diego, summa cum laude, with a degree in Biochemistry, and was awarded the Regents scholarship to University of California, Los Angeles medical school. He completed residency training at the University of California, San Francisco.


Following his orthopedic training, he served in the Transkei, South Africa, with Health Volunteers Overseas and completed a two-year knee and shoulder fellowship at Kaiser/UCSD.

 
Dr. Atkin has volunteered with Operation Rainbow, an organization that provides free orthopedic care to children worldwide, since 1995. He has served as President of Operation Rainbow since 2004 and has personally led more than 70 surgical missions. He has served as a visiting professor at the University of Santo Tomas, Philippines, since 2001. 


Dr. Atkin is the Founding Board Member of MeWater Foundation, an organization that introduces disadvantaged youth to nature and strives for equity for children of color. 


In 2021, Dr. Atkin was awarded the American Academy of Orthopedics Humanitarian Award. He currently serves on the Diversity Advisory Board of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and remains active in DEI work with numerous organizations, including the Ruth Jackson Orthopedic Society, SpeakUpOrtho, Black Women Orthopedic Surgeons, and Pride Ortho.
